Holiday lights event kicks off at Canfield Fairgrounds

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – We still have to get through Thanksgiving but some people are already getting into the Christmas spirit. A new drive-thru holiday light display held its grand opening Tuesday night at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

“It’s never too early to see Christmas lights,” said Marsha Landin, owner of Elegant Christmas Lighting.

Landin has been putting up lights at the Canfield Fairgrounds since early October. She said it has been about 18 years since there were Christmas lights on the fairgrounds.

She is excited to welcome people to their drive-thru light display.

“We decided to bring it back because [we] didn’t see anything. The closest one around is Oglebay or all the way up in Strongsville,” Landin said.

This drive-thru light display runs 1.4 miles and there are so many different light displays to be seen, like the Eiffel Tower, Jack Frost and even a reindeer kicking a field goal.

There will also be a special visitor on the weekends.

“On the weekends, we will have Santa in Santa’s Village,” Landin said.

Landin and her company have been hanging up Christmas lights on residential and commercial properties for about 12 years now. She said they just love the holiday season.

“I love Christmas lights. I love the family tradition, going to see Christmas lights. I did it as a kid with my parents. I do it with my son,” Landin said.

The light display will run until January 9.

Gate 9 is the entrance and it is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 5-10 p.m.

It’s $25 per car or SUV, $50 for a limo or party bus and $75 for a tour bus.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or through Elegant Christmas Lighting’s website.

So head on out in your Christmas pajamas with a thermos of hot cocoa and turn on the Christmas music while enjoying the light show!
