DETROIT, Mich. (WYTV) – The world caught a glimpse Wednesday night of the next-generation Chevy Cruze, and even though it won’t be on the market until early 2016, people are getting excited about its new sportier look.
“It is my pleasure to present the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze,” General Motors CEO Mary Barra said during the unveiling ceremony in Detroit.
The new Cruze, like its predecessor, will be built at the General Motors plant in Lordstown.
“From the outside, it is a completely different design. The vehicle is longer, the vehicle is leaner. The vehicle is 250 pounds lighter. It has a brand new engine, it has a brand new architecture. It delivers 40 mpg on the highway,” Chevrolet Marketing Director Steve Majoros said.
“We are confident we are going to lead the competition with the new Cruze,” Cruze chief engineer Al Manzor said.
They were even showing off some of its new colors like the one pictured here called “Blue Me Away.”
“I hope that from a design standpoint that people are really excited about the new Cruze because it has such an expressive and great dynamic to it,” designer Kathy Sirvio said.
Some of the newer technology features include both Apple car play and Android auto, which allow users access to their favorite apps and the capability to voice text without taking their eyes off the road.
“People want quality and they want performance and they want safety, but they also want a car they can fall in love with,” Majoros said.
