YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A taste of New Orleans is coming to Youngstown.
Reminiscent of New Orleans culture and flavor, the “Taste of N’Awlins” food truck is almost ready to hit the streets. Alan Franco owns the truck and says all of the food will be cooked from scratch.
“It’s the kind of food that I enjoy eating, and I feel I’ve mastered it, and I think it’s pretty good,” said Franco of the southern flavor. “I’ve had great reviews from people, and there’s no other New Orleans food around here.”
Franco said the food is flavorful and tasty, but it’s not all spicy. Menu items include a few New Orleans’ staples like chicken and andouille gumbo, jambalaya and crab cakes, as well as interesting twists on burgers and tacos.
Franco says the fresh ingredients are key.
“It’s comfort food, and we put some twists on it and stuff. The menu will change in the spring and the summer, in order to make it more fresh and to get more local products,” he said.
Franco’s mother, Marjorie Hernan, helps with the desserts. She was emotional when talking about her son’s new business.
“It’s what I always wanted. I wanted to see him happy and passionate and doing something that he enjoys and is excellent at,” she said. “He is an excellent chef, and I am thrilled to death.”
The truck will go on tour across the Valley, but it will mainly be stationed in downtown Youngstown. Franco says it is beneficial to have a restaurant on wheels.
“I think it’s the new thing,” he said. “You can go to where the customers are. You don’t have to wait for the customers to come to you.”
