Eastern Gateway gets state money to help minorities, low income students and others

Local News

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Eastern Gateway Community College is teaming up with America Makes to bring in new training and educational programs.

The school received $3.5 million in state funding to make it happen.

Officials with the Youngstown City School District say it’s a great opportunity to help keep young people in the area.

“When they go to college, they never come back because they feel like there’s nothing for them to come back to. This gives us the opportunity to kind of help them where they never leave. The collaboration with Eastern Gateway and Youngstown State University as well gives our scholars the opportunity to build their careers and college readiness right here in Youngstown,” said Youngstown Schools CEO Justin Jennings.

Those who will be able to benefit from the programs include 5th through 12th graders, low-income populations, minorities and displaced workers.
