BEAVER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — A portion of South Avenue was closed for several hours after a fire in Beaver Township early Monday morning.

Crews were called to the 10400 block of South Avenue just before 5 a.m. It happened right across from Bolt Construction.

A neighbor coming home from work at 4 a.m. saw the smoke and called 911.

Beaver Township firefighters were assisted by Springfield Township and Poland firefighters. Crews did not confirm any injuries and did not think anyone was home at the time.

The fire is still under investigation. So much damage was done, Beaver Township Fire Chief Larry Sauerwein said it could hinder finding out a cause.

“Right now, it’s undetermined. We haven’t even been able to even determine an area of the fire yet. We think it might have started in the basement but we’re not certain. There’s too much damage to the floors to get inside to do a major investigation,” Sauerwein said.

He believes the house is a total loss.
