HARTFORD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – One man is dead after a crash on Monday in Hartford Township.

The crash happened about 1:20 p.m. on State Route 305 between Warner Road and Bushnell Campbell Road NE.

An employee of Bud’s Towing was driving by and saw the silver Mustang flipped over in a ditch and called 911.

Troopers say 55-year-old Richard Montgomery, of Sharon, was traveling east on State Route 305 in a 2004 Mustang when he went off the north side of the road, hit a group of trees, overturned and was thrown from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s ultimately a preventable death. We can say there is not much compartment intrusion, yet he was ejected. Therefore, we can say that he was not wearing a safety belt where, in this case, a safety belt could have saved his life,” said Sgt. Erik Golias.

The accident remains under investigation.
