LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – Columbiana County health officials provided an update on how they are going to handle COVID -19 vaccinations in the county. Watch the above video to see the original press conference from health officials on January 14.

The plan began with the distribution of the vaccine to groups in Phase 1B, which includes those 80 years old or older. They started being offered Jan. 19.

Residents 75 years of age or older (with a priority to those 80+) can now call the county health department at 330-692-2210 or 330-429-5133, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. They’ll be able to speak to a staff member directly and schedule a vaccination, according to the health department.

You may be asked to present a copy of your ID, insurance or Medicare B card when obtaining a vaccine, however, the vaccine is free.

An administration fee may be charged and submitted to insurance companies, but there is no co-pay, according to Columbiana County health officials. The vaccine is free.

The county’s goal is to complete the 80+ year old age group by January 29.

There are several locations across the county where the vaccine will be administered. You must be able to to prove your age, and appointments are mandatory at most of the locations.

The one location where an appointment is not necessary is at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds, where a new building was constructed for vaccine distribution.

“We are concerned for some of the population as we begin to vaccinate that may not have internet accessibility or capability to make those reservations, so this will an open clinic,” said Columbiana County Health Commissioner Wesley Vins,

The building was constructed in just one month. It can accommodate 12 cars, six on each side. Drivers will enter the main entrance of the fairgrounds, drive behind the grandstand, and fill out paperwork in their vehicles.

“We want everyone ready to expose their upper arm because we won’t have changing facilities available. We also won’t’ have a bathroom available at that time,” said Laura Fauss, public information officer for the Columbiana County General Health District.

Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine will be available.
