Canfield income tax hike on ballot Tuesday_47469

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – There’s a special election underway in Canfield on Tuesday. Residents are deciding whether or not to raise the city income tax by a half-percent to 1.5%.

City Manager Joe Warino says the loss of the estate tax and reduction in monies from the Local Government Fund add up to a loss of a million dollars from the general fund over the last three years. He says without the increase, there may have to be cuts in non-mandated services, starting with snow removal and leaf and brush pickup.

Warino says he hasn’t gotten a lot of feedback from city residents. Public meetings on the issue were sparsely attended and he’s received very few calls.

The polls at St Michael Parish Family Life Center and at the Metroparks Farm are open til 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
