CAMPBELL, Ohio (WYTV) – Authorities formally charged a former Campbell High School teacher with sexual battery at an arraignment Tuesday.

Shannon Pavlansky-Wojtowicz faces up to 36 months in prison and a $10,000 fine. Since her charges are a felony case, she did not enter a plea Tuesday. Pavlansky-Wojtowicz is free on bond, which she paid Friday after her arrest.

Campbell Law Director Brian Macala says he’s not able to discuss specifics of the case but said local authorities called investigators with the Crimes Against Children unit of the Ohio BCI last month after learning Wojtowicz has two relatives working for the city – one in the police department.

“To quote the agent that has been assigned it, the position of BCI is that ‘we have 100 percent positivity that we have a case against her,’” Macala said.

Wojtowicz is free on bond. The case could be presented directly to a grand jury in the next few weeks.

A source confirmed to WYTV that there will be a special school board meeting Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m., where an interim principal could be named. District officials placed the previous principal on paid leave on Friday.

Police arrested Pavlansky-Wojtowicz in connection with an investigation regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student. She turned herself in to the Campbell Police Department Friday afternoon after a warrant for her arrest was issued on a felony charge of sexual battery, according to the office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.

Agents with DeWine’s Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating Pavlansky-Wojtowicz in January after the Campbell Police Department received a tip regarding the alleged inappropriate relationship.

School officials placed her on unpaid leave Jan. 19 pending the investigation and resigned on Feb. 3. She was employed with the district since 2009.

Campbell Schools Superintendent Matt Bowen filed a complaint with the police department Jan. 16.
