Austintown, Youngstown officers chase gas station robbery suspect

The dramatic arrest played out in front of an entire neighborhood

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) - A man was taken into custody on Wednesday, accused of robbing two gas stations in Austintown.

The dramatic arrest played out in front of an entire neighborhood.

Police had been on the lookout for the man who they say robbed the GetGo on Mahoning Avenue and the BP gas station near N. Meridian Road.

Westside neighbors watched as the suspect hid in yards and then ran across Meridian Road.

When he was spotted at the BP, police sprung into action.

"You know, 30 or 40 police cars marked and unmarked -- it's just amazing how fast the Youngstown and Austintown police responded to that situation," said a witness, Raymond Verdecchia.

Police chased the man down. He was hit by a police cruiser and taken into custody.

Police aren't releasing the suspect's name at this time. He faces multiple charges.
