Local News

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Wednesday, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the arrest of an Austintown Middle School assistant coach on child pornography charges.

Police arrested Rex Bosley, 59, Wednesday afternoon and charged him with one felony count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, one felony count of pandering obscenity involving a minor, and one felony count of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance.

Bosley is employed as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Austintown Middle School, according to the release from DeWine’s office. He is currently in custody at the Mahoning County Jail.

The arrest follows a joint investigation conducted by the Attorney General’s Crimes Against Children Unit, Austintown Township Police, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the attorney general.

“We’re actually very appreciative for the attorney general for having that division he has to catch people who aren’t good people,” Austintown Superintendent Vince Colaluca said.

According to a press release from Austintown Schools, Bosley is a supplemental coach but not a teacher, and passed an Ohio BCI and an FBI background check before being hired.
