STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) – Aqua Ohio has purchased land for the division’s new headquarters in the Castlo Industrial Park in Struthers.
Jennifer Johnson, area manager for Aqua Ohio, said it made sense for the company to stay in the City of Struthers. Aqua Ohio will be the first business to purchase land in the Castlo Industrial Park to construct a building there, she said.
“It was a good fit for us… The Castlo Park and the City of Struthers have been good to us, so it was an easy decision,” Johnson said.
The company has been in the city since the 1920s.
“We’ve been partners for about 80 or 90 years, so that’s a long time that they’ve had an investment in the community,” said Struthers Mayor Terry Stocker.
Stocker said he believes the city is attractive to businesses, like Aqua Ohio, for a multitude of reasons.
“I believe that we are a well-run community,” he said. “It’s a safe community, and this facility here, I think it brings a lot to the table.”
Aqua Ohio’s new building will bring together all of the company’s operations and maintenance under one roof, which Johnson said will benefit customers.
“Especially during the winter months will make it easier for us to respond quicker to water main breaks and other emergencies by having everything under cover,” she said.
In addition to the building, $1.6 million will go to water pain replacements, and $900,000 to treatment plant improvements and upgrades. Construction will begin next spring.
“We’re going to be looking at a lot of construction and revenues from that. It means a lot to the community, as far as our tax base,” Stocker said.
The company expects to move into their new place by this time next year.
