VIENNA, Ohio (WYTV) – Allegiant Air is expanding and soon will fly in and out of the Akron-Canton Airport.
That could mean competition for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport since the majority of the Vienna airport’s passengers fly with Allegiant Air. Even though the Akron-Canton Airport is less than an hour away, Youngstown-Warren Regional officials said they are not expecting a drop in passengers.
Airport director Dan Dickten said customers like traveling to and from the airport in Vienna because of the convenience and other perks.
“The local passengers don’t have to drive so far to get to another airport. And of course our parking lot is a lot cheaper than the other airports and people save money there,” Dickten said.
Allegiant will begin offering flights from Akron-Canton to Tampa, Savannah and Clearwater in May and Myrtle Beach in June.
Allegiant Air is also the newest airline to serve in nearby Pittsburgh.
