Akron Marathon honors Hubbard teen injured in ATV crash

AKRON, Ohio (WYTV) – Children and teens, including some from the Mahoning Valley, were honored at the Akron Marathon Saturday morning.

The event was sponsored by Akron Children’s Hospital.

Every mile along the marathon route featured a different “ACH Hero.” Mile nine honored Colin Burdette, a Hubbard teen who suffered a life-changing accident on the back of an ATV.

Doctors at Akron Children’s Hospital reconstructed his face and repaired broken bones.

To date, he’s the kicker for Hubbard High School’s varsity football team.

“The support we’ve received from our community, the Akron community and even the Akron Marathon community has been unbelievable,” said Colin’s mother, Molly Burdette.

This was the first year Akron Children’s Hospital sponsored the event.

“There’s kids all over, all different ages, with different diseases or different obstacles they’ve overcome, and we have Colin here who overcame a nice little incident back home, and now he’s great and feeling better,” said Kelsey Moreton from Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
