YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Family, friends and staff of Akron Children’s Hospital were busy Thursday volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Doctor Elena Rossi led the efforts, helping to pack up more than 2,000 boxes of food for children.

The boxes are filled with children-friendly food. They’ll be delivered to schools and other agencies around the Valley.

The food will help feed kids in need.

“It’s just always been important to my dad — World War II veteran — he’s just always cared about it. He’s 96 years old and he really keeps giving back to the community every year. So this is a bigger production. It’s more than we as a family could do by ourselves so that’s why, along with Akron Children’s Hospital and Second Harvest Food Bank, we’re doing this,” Dr. Rossi said.

Dr. Rossi’s father is Daniel Rossi. The Youngstown native pursued a law degree after serving in the war. He created the law practice, Rossi & Rossi.
