BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The 12th annual Easter Seals 5K To Make the First Five Count took place at Boardman Park on Saturday morning.
Over 100 people were at the park to support early childhood development.
Statistics show that, each year, one out of every five children begins the school year behind his or her peers. Which, as the organizers said, makes events like the 5K that much more important.
“The purpose is to not only raise funds for our organization, but to raise community awareness about the importance of the first 5 years of a child’s life,” said Jennifer Roberts, Special Events Coordinator for the Easter Seals.
Easter Seals encourages parents to complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaire which serves as a screening tool to help parents monitor their child’s development.
That questionnaire is provided for free by Easter Seals.
