YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – State Representative Michele Lepore-Hagan says the new casino in Austintown owes the township money and she wants it to pay up.
Austintown isn’t the only area promised money. Communities across the state where racinos are located also have money due to them.
The Tribune Chronicle reports that Lepore-Hagan is calling on Kasich to make the $500,000 payments promised to Austintown.
In June of 2012 and 2013, Kasich signed two bills that he and the Ohio State Racing Commission agreed on that provides annual payments of $500,000 over three years to racino communities in Ohio.
Lepore-Hagan says as of yesterday, 950 days after the first bill was signed, payments have not been made as promised.
The yearly payments were promised to help Austintown and other communities cancel out expenses such as those for increased safety services.
