YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Eastern Gateway Community College soon will name a new president as the search has been narrowed to four finalists.
One of those finalists is Dr. Lada Gibson-Shreve, who visited the Youngstown campus on Monday. She currently serves as provost and chief academic officer at Stark State College.
“I am familiar with the region, so I understand the demands that are here for students, what business and industries need, and that includes university partnerships,” Gibson-Shreve said. She addressed a public forum at the Youngstown campus after visiting the main campus in Steubenville earlier in the day. The three other candidates also will visit this week, including Dr. Derrick Manns on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Summers on Wednesday and Dr. Jimmie Bruce on Thursday.
Eastern Gateway Community College’s current president, Dr. Laura Meeks, will retire this summer. There will be a month overlap with the new hire.
“Dr. Meeks served us so well for 14 years and this is a very important part of the college at this time, the place in history, because we are expanding. We have expanded from just Jefferson County to Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull,” said Dr. Dante Zambrini, Eastern Gateway’s interim vice president.
Officials expect to announce their decision by the end of this month.
