Nugget of Knowledge: Rides not found at Disney

Have you been to Disney World or Disneyland? There are some great rides there, including the Pirates of the Caribbean, the Tower of Terror and Space Mountain.

But some will not be coming to Disney World or Disneyland.

  • Atlantis Expedition: The Disney movie “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” followed the huge hits of “The Lion King,” “Pocahontas” and “Tarzan.” Disney executives planned a whole ride around the film but then — it never happened.
  • Nostromo: Disney acquired the rights to create this scary ride. It was based on the horror science fiction film, “Alien.” The ride involved searching for the crew of the spaceship Nostromo while a giant alien bug tries to eat you. Disney came to its senses and determined it wasn’t family-friendly.
  • Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday: It involved traveling in an upside-down umbrella. However, the author of the book “Mary Poppins” hated the film and refused to give Disney the rights to make the ride.
  • Mount Fuji Roller Coaster: In this ride, Godzilla would chase you inside the Japanese pavilion at Epcot Center. It was never built because one of Epcot’s biggest sponsors, Kodak, didn’t want Disney building a ride with a name similar to Kodak’s biggest competitor — Fuji Film.
