Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have a list of the favorite romantic and romantic comedy movies in each state from Google Trends.
First, what you might expect: In California, viewers love the Valley girl classic “Clueless” from 1995. People in Alabama are searching for “Sweet Home Alabama” from 2002, and Washington state residents love the Tom Hanks film “Sleepless in Seattle” from 1993.
The most popular romantic films are “Hitch” from 2005 and “Something’s Gotta Give,” 2003, each taking the top spot in three states.
Let’s look at our area of the country:
Pennsylvania’s favorite is “Silver Linings Playbook.” Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence fight and fall in love in 2012.
West Virginia’s is “Arthur.” Dudley Moore plays a happy drunk in 1981.
Kentucky’s is “Love at First Bite.” George Hamilton as the count gives New York a try and chases Susan Saint James in 1979.
Indiana’s is “One Fine Day.” Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney are single parents who fall in love in 1996.
Michigan’s is “Legal Eagles.” Attorney Robert Redford works and flirts with Debra Winger from 1986.
Ohio’s is “Knocked Up.” Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, well, the title gives the plot away in 2007.
Bonus nugget: When it comes to original romantic movies on Netflix, both Pennsylvanians and Ohioans go for “The Kissing Booth.”
