Good Question: What does the sign “No Engine Brake” mean?

Daybreak

What does the sign “No Engine Brake” mean? Is there something I can’t do with my engine?

Kay also wanted to know why it shows up outside of towns.

We asked our viewers if they knew the answer to that question. Watch the video above for their responses.

The rule concerns large trucks, like diesel trucks.

When a driver wants to slow down, he can step on the brake, but that wears on the brake pads. Instead, he or she could downshift the engine and the engine brakes, the engine slows the truck down.

The disadvantage with that is, it can be very loud, and cities and towns don’t like the noise.
