Good Question: Are thermostats sexist?

(WYTV) – In 1966, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers decided to set a standard, a kind of guideline for climate controlled comfort inside offices. Set the thermostat so that a 40-year-old man weighing 155 pounds is comfy.

They forgot the women!

Research shows that men do tend to work more efficiently when it’s a bit cooler, women when it’s a bit warmer. In fact, for men, the ideal temperature in an office is 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

For women, it’s 77 degrees.

Here’s the dirty little secret: in a lot of offices, these things aren’t even hooked up. Imagine everyone jumping up every 20 minutes to adjust them to his or her own comfort. No, they’re there just for show.
