Pinwheel gardens across Valley encourage people to report child abuse

Keeping Kids Safe

A thousand pinwheels are now on display in Boardman Park. Each represent individuals who advocated and took action on behalf of a child.

You’ll be seeing a lot of these pinwheel gardens across our community this month. April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month.

These gardens aren’t just eye-catching — they have a much deeper meaning. They aim to raise awareness and encourage people to take action to protect children.

“The biggest thing is just to get the message out. That it’s everybody’s responsibility to, if they see something, say something,” said Andrea Mistovich, with Akron Children’s Hospital.

“We really rely on the community to make those reports when they suspect child abuse or neglect,” said Jennifer Kollar, with Mahoning County Children Services.
