Hometown Hero spreading faith during missionary trip to Bahamas

Hometown Heroes

Our Hometown Hero is set to travel this summer, and she’s taking her small group on a mission.

Casey Lewis runs the youth group at the Christian Church in Champion, and she’s planning missionary work in the Bahamas in June.

It’s not just fun in the sun.

As they have done in several states, three adults and six high school students will tutor children in Bible studies, plant community gardens and be good Christians.

“It’s definitely a good experience to explore your views of God and experience Christianity, I think, and also obviously, you want to help people when you go places like that,” said missionary Kylie Gardner.

The youth group has its own headquarters — part of the big expansion at Champion Christian Church.

The group itself goes back years — back into the 1990s. They’ve been to New York, North Carolina and Tennessee, visiting nursing homes, adoption homes and running vacation bible schools.

“In the Bible, it says that it’s our job to spread the good news, so that’s our goal,” Lewis said.
