CHAMPION, Ohio (WYTV) - The end of a school year, means the end of our 33 Student Athlete of the Week for 2018.
And we saved one of the best for last. Champion's Megan Turner is one of the best softball players in the Valley, playing on one of the best teams in the State. This weekend, the Golden Flashes go for back-to-back State Titles in Akron. It's already been a big week for Megan, and now, she's our "33 Student Athlete of the Week."
"It's a lifestyle, I don't know what my life would be like if I didn't have softball," said Turner. "I literally play softball every day of my life."
Megan is a natural on the diamond. After all, she's been playing softball since she was four years old.
Now she's one of the best players to ever come through Champion as a 1st Team All State shortstop.
Megan holds school records with 38 career home runs and nearly 170 career RBI's.
"I really don't think anything, I mean I don't strive to beat records," said Turner. "I just play my game and it kind of just happens. We have a lot of good girls on our team so we push each other to be our best and my teammates have pushed me to be the best I can."
And Megan's teams have also been the best nearly every season. She's already won two State Championships at Champion and going for a third this weekend. Last year, Megan celebrated with her older brother Michael, who won a State Baseball Title the same day.
"There's no words to describe how awesome it is to be able to go three out of four years to state," she said. "It's like so surreal."
Off the field, Megan has been just as competitive. She carries a 3.9 GPA and has volunteered over 200 service hours. After high school, she's attending Kent State on a softball scholarship where she plans to study Accounting.
"This is what I really hoped what my senior year would be and I'm glad we're back at state. But I really hope we get to finish it and win the State Championship one last time."
