Student Athlete of the Week---Dayna Daltorio by Bill Castrovince

Our student athlete of the week is about to do something no other has ever done at Cardinal Mooney. Bill Castrovince also tells us she has no off season yet finds a way to be a big winner in the classroom as well.

Cardinal Mooney has a long, rich, athletic tradition .. And yet, senior Dayna Daltorio is about to make school history by earning her 12Th varsity letter.

"You think about all the football players doing this and that. To have 12 letters and be the only one, boy or girl, it's very exciting."

Daltorio is going to break the previous record of 11 letters, held by her older sister Danielle.

"We joke about it every now and then. But she'll be like, I'm just happy to keep it in the family. She's OK with it."

She has earned her letters and Steel Valley honors in basketball, track, and volleyball, making for a busy school year.

"Cause I think if I go home and just sit there, I'll just watch TV. I always gotta keep busy. I think this is a good thing for me."

You would think with all the games and practices, her grades would suffer. But Dayna has taken eight honors courses, and still has a 4.1 average.

"It's a good challenge. The teachers challenge you. They expect more from you. It's all a challenge. You just go with it. Have a good time, go to your sports, and do homework. It's a nice balance."

Making Mooney history, Dayna Daltorio is our Student Athlete of the Week.
