Student Athlete of the Week by Bill Castrovince

Our student athlete of the week a star is 2 sports, and as Bill Castrovince tells us his work in the classroom every bit as impressive as his play on the diamond and gridiron.

Opponents have had a devil of a time stopping Matt Kalbfell .. The Western Reserve senior is hitting near .500 so far this season .. But he's been just as valuable in the field, where, after earning All Conference honors as an outfielder, he has made a smooth transition to second base.

"We're deep in the outfield. We need help in the infield. I feel good about it. It's working out. I'm up for whatever helps the team the most. It doesn't matter to me, as long as I'm out there playing."---Matt Kalbfell

Kalbfell also leads his team in stolen bases .. And, this past fall, he led the Blue Devils in interceptions .. Being named to the Penn Ohio All Star Game was an honor, but the back to back winning seasons was much more fun.

Football has always been my favorite sport. It was great to have some success after all the years of set backs for Western Reserve. We're finally able to build a program."

Matt was named team captain in both baseball and football. But he is a leader in the classroom too. Thanks to a 3.7 grade point average, he ranks 6Th in his class."

"It feels good to know you are accomplishing something, reaching your goals, things like that."---Matt

A member of National Honor Society, Matt Kalbfell of Western Reserve now has another honor as our Student Athlete of the Week.
