Penguins Turn to Martin

Eight years removed from their last NCAA Women's Tournament appearance, YSU believes it has found the right coach to end the drought.

Cindy Martin was introduced as the fifth head coach in school history on Friday.  She leaves Indiana (Pa.) after three seasons, the last two ending with a PSAC Championship.  Martin inheritted a team with a 9-18 record and compiled a 70-32 record for a school record .753 winning percentage.  This past season, she led the Crimson Hawks to the Elite Eight of the Division Two Tournament, earning East Region Coach of the Year honors.

Martin also spent four seasons as the recruiting coordinator at West Virginia.  She is a 1999 graduate of Florida and a native of Jacksonville, Florida.

In her introductory press conference, Martin said she expects the Penguins to compete for a Horizon League title right away.  YSU will have six seniors and four juniors on next year's roster.

Martin replaces Tisha Hill, who resigned March 7th.
