Youngstown Schools Want Oakhill Back Taxes

This week, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled the county could not appeal a tax lien imposed several years ago against Oakhill Renaissance Center which is now being used as a government office complex.
Almost two thirds of the amount owned, or two hundred seventy two thousand dollars, would go to the school district at a time when millions in spending cuts have already been made and voters are being asked to approve a nine point five mill levy next month.

Board of Education president Shelley Murray says, "we've made tremendous sacrifices in our district for the sake of the students.  We obviously need that money."
Thursday night, County Commissioners voted to ask Governor Strickland to "forgive" the tax lien, which totals more than four hundred thousand dollars.
The school district already owes the state seventeen million dollars in loans its had to borrow to pay expenses.
