Harding Walk Thru by Jason Vinkler

One woman stopped at her old locker, lightly touching it, wondering if it felt the same. One man sat alone in the auditorium, his thoughts drifting back to some play or program of long ago.Others took pictures beside the marble drinking fountain. Every student who's ever roamed the halls of Warren Harding High School remembers the fountain. It was night to remember...the last chance to walk through the old school before it's torn down. As Jason Vinkler tells us a lot of people showed up at Harding High to say good bye to an old friend.

Warren Harding High School went up in 1925, at the end of this school year most of the structure will be demolished. Now, dozens of graduates took the opportunity to walk through the building one final time, many of them returning for the first time since they were actually in high school.

"THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE BEEN IN HERE. IT'S PROBABLY 20 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK. I'VE BEEN BACK.....YOU KNOW LOOKING AROUND AT SOME OF THE ARCHITECTURE WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG AND YOU GO THROUGH SCHOOL, YOU DON'T TAKE TIME TO LOOK AT ANYTHING LIKE THAT, AND NOW YOU LOOK AT IT WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WONDER."Richard Butcher Class of 1988

Everyone had tales to share, one man from the class of 48 recalling his days of playing football for Harding. Most took pictures, shared stories, but one things is for sure, it was a chance for ALL of them to take a trip down memory lane.

"IT'S VERY NOSTALGIC. IT'S BEEN SOME 45 YEARS SINCE I WAS HERE.......IT'S AN EXCELLENT BUILDING AND I THINK EVERYONE REMEMBERS SOMETHING. I THINK THE MARBLE DRINKING FOUNTAINS EVERYONE REMEMBERS, THE OLD ELEVATOR AROUND THE CORNER. I THINK THOSE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS. BUT PROBABLY THE TEACHERS MOST OF ALL WE HAD EXCELLENT TEACHERS BACK THEN."- Jack Mullen Class of 1962

"I HAVE A BROTHER-IN-LAW WHO GRADUATED 10 YEARS BEFORE ME AND A COUSIN FIVE YEARS BEFORE ME WE'RE ALL HERE TOGETHER. WE ALL DECIDED TO MEET HERE AND GO THROUGH TOGETHER AND IT'S BEEN GREAT. I HATE TO LEAVE."--Joe Marscio Class of 1970

The last day of classes in the current Warren G. Harding High building will take place on Thursday June 5th. Then next year new memories will be made, and a new building will open up.
