It's not about to close, nothing that drastic, but Someplace Safe is in desperate need of donations.
The building has given victims of domestic violence and their families someplace safe to go in Trumbull County. But now, like many other shelters and services, Someplace Safe is running low on money and supplies.
"We're in need of paper products, non-perishable food items, laundry detergent, those are the main items right now that we absolutely need.", says Danette Palmer, Development Specialist for Someplace Safe.
Someplace safe is in no real danger of shutting down, but Palmer says their biggest need right now is food. Because their shelves, which are usually full, are now stocked with mostly just canned vegetables.
"We depend on a lot of community donations, individual donations, and from a lot of organizations to help us out.", says Palmer.
So Debbie Lovas and the North West Neighborhood Association in Warren are stepping up to help the struggling shelter. By bringing in food and donations at the first Summit Rock Showcase concert in the Warren Amphitheater this Saturday night.
"We're going to have a collection drive at the concert from five to eleven p.m., there will be collection containers and a lot of pick-up trucks to put it all in to bring it here afterwords.", says Debbie Lovas, Coordinator of the North West Neighborhood Association.
And what better way to help a place that's helped so many people in the community.
"There is a lot of domestic violence that goes on, people just don't hear about it, and they don't read about it unless someone is killed. I've been in that situation, women and children need this place.", says Lovas.
Palmer says Someplace Safe will have to spend money it really doesn't have, or dip into the general fund to buy food if donations don't pick up. Saturday's free concert features Led Zeppelin tribute band Zoso. Anyone who brings a food or money donation for Someplace Safe will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win prizes at the show.
