Johnston Patrol by Peggy Sinkovich

So what's being done there?  Who's protecting the people?

Violent crime is not common in Johnstown Township.

According to many who live here, it's a peaceful community, where everyone knows each other, but still those who call this township home, are afraid the calm may soon come to an end.

Just last week, trustees disbanded the township's part-time police department because they don't have enough money to keep it operating.  A problem that has plagued many of the rural township in northern Trumbull County.

Right now the sheriff's department is sending a cruiser to the area, when needed.

Johnston Trustee Dominic Marchese says he is eager to meet with the sheriff officials and discuss an option that would help out several communities, a sheriff's department reserve force.

The reserve force would be volunteers.  Marchese says he believes many of the reserve deputies would be willing to take part.

Trustees are hoping to meet with sheriff officials next week.
