As police were busy dealing with bomb threats in the Columbiana County Courthouses, another threatening call came directly into the Department of Job and Family Services-- right across the square from the Courthouse in downtown Lisbon.
"It was fairly explicit, expressed some concerns about some of the activities we do in the agency, and then said, 'you're all going to blow'.", says the Department's Director Eileen Dray-Bardon.
J.F.S. immediately put its evacuation plan into motion. Around 150 employees and clients left the building for one of three pre-determined gathering places, including a church across the street.
Shortly after one o'clock in the afternoon, the Sheriff gave the all clear and employees were allowed to start filing back into the building.
"People are pretty nervous when something like this happens so I did give them the opportunity, if they wanted to use their own leave time, and leave at one o'clock, I would just give them a one o'clock departure and they could be off for the rest of the day.", says Dray-Bardon.
Dray-Bardon says she didn't think too many employees took the rest of the day off-- most of them headed straight back to work, helping the people in the community.
"I've been steering folks away, telling them come back at one o'clock, it looks like we'll be open, people coming in for food stamps and Medicaid, that's who we're here to serve so we need to be here.", says Dray-Bardon.
Thankfully, no bombs were found, and all evacuation plans and procedures went smoothly. So the situation didn't escalate into something more dangerous or devastating.
