Farmington Township, Ohio (WYTV) - A family in Trumbull County is preparing to rebuild after a fire destroyed their barn, killing two of their horses.
A smoking pile of debris is all that is left of the barn along Route 534 in Farmington Township.
The barn caught fire Tuesday afternoon and smoke and flames were shooting from it when emergency crews arrived, even though it only took six minutes to get there.
“Unfortunately, the fire conditions were already too far gone where we couldn’t make any interior operations,” said Farmington Township Fire Chief Jon Bland.
Two horses were trapped inside and died, but the property owners were able to save four others.
Bland says the owners finished a complete roof addition on the barn last summer. Wednesday, they were already preparing the area to rebuild.
“Right now, they are cleaning the lot. Just as of this morning, the remains are already in one big pile, and they are going to start to rebuild,” Bland said.
Bland says since the loss was so significant it's going to be nearly impossible to figure out a cause.
