Slifka Job Future by Peggy Sinkovich

Just within the past month there was the Mary Rush ordeal, and then one of Slifka's patrolmen gets caught putting a GPS tracking devise in his girlfriend's car, that has a couple Trustees wondering what's going on.

Liberty Township Trustee Gary Litch says he believes it's time for a change in leadership in the police department.

Litch confirmed he sent out a memo, via the email, several days ago to township administrators about terminating Police Chief Tony Slifka's contract.  The trustee says he is unhappy with the length of time the chief has spent on two investigations, the missing money in the township's post office and the internal probe of a patrolman accused of placing a GPS tracking system in his girlfriend's car.  Litch says he is also upset with Slifka's handling of the April 28th death of an elderly woman.

Litch says Slifka works at the pleasure of the board, and that he would need the other two trustees to agree with him in order to have the chief removed .

Trustee Jack Simon is unhappy with the long investigations but is not sure if firing the chief is the right answer.

Township Administrator Pat Ungaro and Trustee Jodi Stoyak, disagrees completely. They both believe the chief is doing the best he can with the department.

Slifka says he understands the trustees are frustrated by the lengthy investigations, but  he wants to be thorough.

Litch says he would like to further discuss the issue with the trustees soon.
