Future Unknown For Lordstown GM Plant

A month-long strike at American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Incorporated could affect local workers as soon as next week because they're not getting the break parts they need to continue making cars.

G-M officials tell us they do have enough to get them through April 4th.  That's when they'll make a decision on what to do next.

But U-A-W Local 11-12 President Jim Graham says he doesn't see any other option other than temporarily shutting the plant down..

If that happens, he says employees can go on unemployment sub, meaning they'll get between 90 to 95% of their salary while the strike goes on.

"Hopefully the strike doesn't last that long. I'd like to see them work out their differences and start treating our people up north properly," Graham said.

American Axle officials held talks this morning, but officials still have not reached an agreement and no new talks are scheduled.

Officials also don't know how long it would take for those parts to get to Lordstown once the strike settles, but American Axle officials say they already have start-up strategies in place.
