Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams will try Nov. 3 to retain his position for the next four years. Write-in candidates Calvin Hill and Cecil Monroe will challege him on Election Day.

The Board of Elections denied Monroe a chance to run as an independent in the May primary because he didn't have enough signatures on his petition.

The mistake was partly the fault of board clerks who gave him the wrong information, but it is ultimately up to the candidates to make sure they know all the requirements to get on the ballot.
