The celebrating started bright and early on St. Patrick's Day 2010. Quaker Steak and Lube in both Austintown and Sharon got things going at 6 a.m. Everyone was decked out in green clothes, glasses and shamrocks.
But do people know anything about what they are celebrating?
One patron said, "Oh, don't ask me that."
Another had his own ideas about St. Patrick.
"Saint Patrick was the patron saint of beer, and all good fine liquors," he said.
Others had their own idea about the saint.
"St. Patrick was the patron saint of beer and all good fine liquors," said another man.
While we don't really know if he was a fan of beer or not, we went looking for more about who St. Patrick was. We took our search to St.b Patrick's Church in Hubbard. The parish has a pastor who is Irish himself.
"He was born, I think it was fourth or fifth century in Britain," said the Rev. Tim O'Neill. "At that time Britain, England, of course it was the Roman empire. It took in not only Scotland and Britain but also Whales."
At the age of 16, St. Patrick was kidnapped by Irish Raiders and he spent six years in captivity.
"He escaped," said O'Neill. "He went on, became a priest. He was so fond of the Irish people, he returned to Ireland. And he converted the island."
It's believed that St. Patrick died on March 17, which is why the celebration takes place on this day.
