More than 200 people ran a 5K for a cause Saturday in McDonald, including one man you might not expect.
As runners crossed the finish line Saturday at the first annual Feed the Need run in McDonald, they knew they were running for a good cause.
"Granger decided to donate. They gave us $10,000 that will go to charities," said 5K organizer, Jeff Politano. A check was presented to Second Harvest Food Bank during a ceremony at the conclusion of the race.
In January, the Lions Club had the idea for the run and since then many businesses decided to pitch in. Runners of all ages participated in the race, including one man who finished his 2,650 race. Eighty-four-year-old Art Joachim fought in World War 11 and for 67 years has been competitively playing sports.
"This is the 2,650 for me and I'm in my 28th year," said Joachim. "It's a nice class of people. It is nice camaraderie and there's refreshments. It's healthy and everything is copacetic."
Joachim says he will continue running and competing as long as his body allows.
