Mahoning County Democratic Party Chair David Betras says he would like to see Mahoning County Sheriff's deputies work at campaigning for the for the sales tax renewal and abandon it's recall of commissioners.

"While I recognize that some deputies are frustrated and angered by layoffs in the sheriff's department, the real solution to the dilemma that confronts everyone who lives and works in Mahoning County lies in the passage of the one-half percent sales tax that will appear on the May 4 primary election ballot. For that reason I ask the deputies to focus their efforts on campaigning on behalf of the renewal rather than on recalling officeholders who are attempting to deal with the consequences of the national recession and the rejection of the sales tax last November.  I respectfully urge the deputies to abandon their recall effort, support the renewal and join the Mahoning County Democratic Party and the many business, civic, religious, and community leaders who are actively campaigning for its passage," Betras said.

The Fraternal Order of Police issued the recall of Mahoning County Commissioners after Sheriff Randall Wellington announced he would be laying off 101 employess by March 28.

It's not bad enough they use extortion to try and pass the sales tax now they want the victims of it to help in the crime!
