A Columbiana County dog is getting national attention this weekend.

Salem, a 6-month-old puppy, will appear in the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

Salem was 1 of only 58 puppies chosen nationwide for the show.  Salem traveled to New York to film the "Puppy Bowl" and was adopted from the Columbiana County Humane Society one week later.

To celebrate, the Humane Society held a puppy tailgate party at the Boardman Petco Store on Saturday.  Those who came out for the event were able to meet Salem and take pictures with him.

This is the first year the Columbiana County Humane Society was selected for the show.

"It's amazing.  Just the fact that more people are going to be aware every year to go to your local humane societies and pounds and rescue organizations to adopt, rather than got to a pet store and buy," said Heather Jurina of the Columbiana County Humane Society.

Meanwhile, both the Columbiana County Humane Society and the Petco Boardman location are collecting donations for a Youngstown man who lost 11 pets in a house fire last week.

The Petco store will be accepting monetary donations and other items throughout the month of February.
