A pit bull mix was reportedly found shot to death on Youngstown's East Side Tuesday morning.
Humane agents with Animal Charity found the dog with a gunshot wound to its chest and covered in plastic near ESA Apartments on Kendis Circle.
Agents believe the dog was shot somewhere else and dumped outside of the apartment complex. They can't say at this point if the case is related to the recent rash of animal abuse in the city.
"Not this type of cruelty," said Animal Charity Humane Agent Kyle Ziegler. "It doesn't really fit with anything else we've been getting, just because its a gunshot wound. And everything else has been malicious and thought out. We'll know more how the dog died when we get it back to Animal Charity to examine it.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Animal Charity at 330-788-7430.
"It gets pretty frustrating because there are other ways to get rid of an animal," said Ziegler. "There's the pound. You can contact Angels for Animals. There are other organizations that may be able to take the dog, but to do this to a dog, it gets pretty frustrating to see this happen to them."
