U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown Friday said nearly 2,500 Ohioans have unclaimed tax refunds owed to them by the Internal Revenue Service.  Nearly 900 of those belong to people living in Northeast Ohio.

Unclaimed checks waiting for residents include these locally: Columbiana County, 11; Mahoning County, 42; and Trumbull County, 18.

Out-of-date addresses have caused these refunds to be returned by the U.S. Postal Service.

Brown said residents can receive their checks if they update their mailing addresses. With thin budgets, he said, residents shouldn't miss out on what they're owed.

Ohio taxpayers who have not received tax refunds can visit the "Where's My Refund?" page at the federal IRS website or call 1-800-829-1040.
