After recovering stolen property like an M-4 machine gun, Canfield police are looking at five individuals in a rash of car break-ins in the city.
Maria Cruz, Joseph Frampton, Kevin Michaels, Justin Nisevich and James Faunda are the suspects, according to police.
"They drove out here, one drove the car, the other four took off on foot in a particular neighborhood," said detective Brian McGivern.
Police said the suspects hit 12 vehicles between Fairview and Hood drives, taking prescription pills, cell phones, car radios and GPS systems.
"They went up and down three or four streets pulling on unlocked car doors," McGivern said.
The suspects allegedly also broke into one home on Hood Drive, gaining entry through an unlocked window.
But Canfield residents aren't the only victims, said police. Authorities in surrounding townships and cities are working together to solve similar crimes.
Police in Poland and Lowellville are investigating multiple car break-ins, while detectives in Boardman are trying to solve more than 20 home invasions that took place over a two-month period.
"Most of them are daytime burglaries where the people aren't home," said Boardman detective Sgt. Glen Riddle. "The door is forced open. Jewelery, electronics guns have been taken."
Investigators believe some of the incidents are related, and they expect to file more charges against other suspects in the next week.
