When choosing a service company for your home air conditioning system, or when making improvements or repairs to the system, you should call a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning specialist listed in the Yellow Pages under the initials 'HVAC.' Or you can ask friends and neighbors for recommendations. Ideally, you should choose a contractor who has been in business three or more years, who is state-licensed, and who will provide references upon request. Once you have selected a contractor, make sure to get specific terms of the contract in writing. These terms should include: * Description of the work to be done * Estimates and payment schedules * A project timeline for completion * and arrangements for clean-up Make sure the contractor also includes a 'statement of release,' which will release you from any liability should the contractor go bankrupt before the project is finished. For additional information, contact your local air conditioning professional.
