You'll be much less likely to slip on a rug there's skid-proof backing or a mat beneath the rug. You can buy these almost anywhere rugs are sold and are easy to install. Put the rug over the mat and draw around it, and then cut the mat to fit. Slipping may not seem very dangerous, but it can be deadly, so you should skid-proof your rugs as soon as possible. Make sure your rugs are made of flame resistant materials, or treat them with flame resistant chemicals. Never put electrical cords under rugs as the wear of constantly being underfoot could cause a fire. Be sure your rugs don't cover heating or cooling air returns. This prevents major damage to your blower motor and reduction of its efficiency. And rugs could catch fire if placed by a hearth, so be sure your rugs are a safe distance away.
