An air conditioning unit is one of the biggest and most important appliances in your home. To ensure years of service and reliability, follow these simple steps. First, get several estimates from reliable dealers for the most appropriate unit for your house. Second, if you already have an air conditioner, have your unit checked every spring by a professional to ensure optimum performance throughout the summer months. If your unit is still under warranty, any repairs needed should be covered by the warranty. If your unit is not under warranty, you can contact either a reputable independent repairman or dealer for an estimate of the repairs. Third, to help maximize the performance of your air conditioner, change the filter every four to six weeks. Families with allergies or pets should change the filter more frequently. Contact your local air conditioning professional for more specific information.
