On your first visit to an orthodontist, a short examination will be performed to determine your particular need for treatment. Once the dentist decides your teeth need straightening, a full examination is made, which includes x-rays and molds of the teeth. No braces or any other corrective treatment will be fitted at this time; but a full report on the procedures to be performed, as well as the projected cost of those procedures, should be provided by your orthodontist. Fees will vary according to the length and difficulty of your case. Be sure to ask your doctor any questions you may have about orthodontic treatment after the preliminary examination. On the first visit, particular attention is paid to how well you keep your teeth clean. After an orthodontic device is fitted in your mouth, it can be a lot harder to brush and floss your teeth. Expect to be at the orthodontist's office for about an hour to an hour and a half on the first visit. At the end of that visit, an appointment will be made for the fitting of your orthodontic appliance.
