The air filter and the spark plugs are two items in your car you'll need to replace periodically. Once a year, you should replace your spark plugs. A spark plug gauge is used to set the gap for a proper spark. The owner's manual should tell you what your car's gap is. To replace spark plugs, simply remove the spark plug wire, unscrew the old plugs with a spark plug wrench, replace with the properly gapped new plugs and attach the spark plug wires. To check or change the air filter, locate the filter housings. Different vehicles connect the top of the filter housings in different ways. However, most have a single wingnut in the center and occasionally, clips are used around the outside. Remove the cover and take out the filter. If it appears slightly dirty, tap it gently on a firm surface to knock dirt away. If it's more than slightly dirty, replace it. Make sure you get the right air filter for your car. Usually a department store automotive section will have charts to determine the one you need. Position the new air filter and replace the cover. That's all there is to it.
