HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania man has been charged with drunken driving and homicide by vehicle in a crash that killed a taxicab driver and one of his passengers last month.
Thirty-year-old Andrew Denezza is also charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and other counts. Harrisburg police chief Charles Kellar says the defendant's blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit, he tested positive for marijuana and he told officers that he was texting at the time of the crash.
Police say Denezza's car crossed the center line on Harrisburg's Market Street Bridge at about 2:35 a.m. on Oct. 3 and hit the taxi head-on. The crash killed 34-year-old driver Michael Amissah of Harrisburg and 28-year-old passenger Kristin Bowser of Camp Hill. Her husband, 31-year-old Christopher Bowser, was injured. Denezza was treated and released.
Denezza's attorney, Richard Wagner, said his client is distraught and "very remorseful that the accident happened."
